Who we are :

The Moira Anderson Foundation, based in North Lanarkshire, Scotland was launched in the year 2000 by Sandra Brown as a legacy to Moira Anderson and her family. It provides a place of safety and support for children and adults who have been affected by Childhood Sexual Abuse.

THE FOUNDATION IS A MEMBER OF :

UK Associations –

COSCA (Counselling & Therapy),

BASPCAN  (Child Protection Issues)

National Organisations-

SCVO ( Vol Sector Body),

North Lanarkshire Child Protection Committee (Voluntary Organisations Forum)

and sits on The Justice For Children Coalition Group
( A Campaigning Body MAF was instrumental in setting up to see better treatment for children and young people at court) and also the Cross- Party Parliamentary Working Gp on Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse
( we have been involved since its inception in 2000).

The charity also participates in the work of the

The National Reference Group for Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse, a Scottish Government

initiative which is spearheading a National Strategy.

  logo Help with supporting children and adults who have disclosed abuse.

Provide an Early Intervention Programme- “Safe Hands”- to promote awareness of keeping safe in pupils 3-8, 8-12, and 12-16 years.

Provide emotional and practical support whether cases go to court or not, and provide therapeutic services tailored to the needs of individuals, male/female.

 
  logo Accompany young people and other vulnerable witnesses if required.  
  logo Assist with provision of respite/alternative housing for witnesses.  
  logo Provide training, seminars, and educational resources on child protection to schools, and to organizations with child protection high on their agenda.  
  logo Campaign for improved treatment of young people and vulnerable people in the legal system and the aftermath of court through the media and elsewhere.  
  logo Assist with access to legal help and with Criminal Injuries Applications.  
  logo Provide statistics, and other information, eg, relevant case studies, and participate in debate, to guide national and local policy and practice.

Liaise with statutory and voluntary agencies to build good networks.

Services we provide :

We provide Counselling and Therapeutic services as well as on going support by trained staff. We also offer a weekly “POP IN” service to clients in which we operate a holistic approach, to spend time in a safe, comfortable and non-judgemental environment.


Training :

We facilitate and deliver “Safe Hands” training and workshop programmes, which are aimed at all ages and groups to promote personal safety strategies for everyone. We also deliver awareness raising presentations and talks to schools, nurseries, churches, etc., about keeping safe and the effects that childhood sexual abuse can have on the individual and society.

Sandra Brown’s Book about Moira’s case “Where There Is Evil” was chosen by readers of BEST magazine for “The Book We Could Not Put Down Award” in 2000 and was a recommended summer read by Just 17, and Marie Claire, and the updated version of the paperback published by Macmillan spent six weeks in the top ten bestsellers of 2006, reaching no 3 in the Tesco Best Selling List, and no 5 in the Sunday Times UK Bestsellers.
