What We Do‎ > ‎

When deciding to attend a counsellor or therapist, it can be helpful to know about the different therapies that we provide. Although all can be effective, you may find one approach more appealing or appropriate than another.

The Foundation offers various types of therapies, such as

  • Person Centered Counselling
  • Thought Field Therapy
  • Play Therapy
  • Art Therapy
  • Filial Therapy
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Complementary Therapies
  • Youth Counselling
  • Psycho-dynamic

Person Centered Counselling is a form of talking therapy where the counsellor creates a comfortable, non-judgemental environment. It uses a non-directive approach and empowers you to find solutions to problems.

Thought Field Therapy is a treatment that can heal a variety of mental and physical ailments through specialised tapping with the fingers at meridian points on the upper body and hands. This is said to release energy blockages that cause negative emotions.

Play Therapy is a way for children to express and work through their experiences and feelings through play. Play Therapy can be accessed from outreach bases we use in Glasgow (East End) and Edinburgh (Sighthill/Wester Hailes area).

Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy. No experience of art is required and the client's art is not judged. Art materials are used in addition to and in conjunction with the therapeutic relationship.

Filial Therapy is a creative way of working with children and their families, where the parents are the main agent for change and is based on child-centered play therapy skills. Filial therapy promotes a healthy and secure attachment between parent and child and involves the whole family where appropriate.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a talking therapy that can help you manage your problems by changing the way you think and behave

Complementary Therapies:

We offer a range of complementary therapies including but not exclusively; Aromatherapy, Reflexology, Reiki and Indian Head Massage. All the therapies help to reduce stress and anxiety and promote positive health and wellbeing. Complementary Therapies can be accessed from an outreach base in Glasgow city.

Youth Counselling will help you look at coping mechanisms and strategies for a variety of issues and increase self confidence.

An initial appointment will be set up with the Client Support Worker to discuss the different therapies we provide, giving you an informed choice.
